Indian ambassador meets Ethiopian Minister on digital cooperation
The Ambassador of India to Ethiopia met with Dr Belete Molla, Ethiopia’s Minister of Innovation and Technology, to discuss the roadmap for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of information technology, innovation, and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on advancing collaboration in digital transformation, with a particular focus on supporting Ethiopia’s Digital Ethiopia 2030 initiative.
The Indian Ambassador conveyed India’s appreciation for Ethiopia’s ambitious national digital strategy, which aims to build an inclusive, secure, and innovation-driven digital economy. The initiative focuses on expanding digital connectivity, enhancing cybersecurity, building digital skills, and integrating emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence to improve public service delivery,
stimulate economic growth, and strengthen citizen engagement. Both sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in the area of Digital Public Infrastructure, in line with the existing Memorandum of Understanding between India and Ethiopia on digital transformation. The discussions explored potential avenues for collaboration, including the sharing of best practices, capacity building, and technical cooperation. India highlighted its experience in developing scalable, inclusive, and citizen-centric digital platforms that could support Ethiopia’s digital governance and service delivery objectives.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of India and Ethiopia to deepen engagement in emerging technologies, innovation ecosystems, and digital governance frameworks. Both sides emphasized the importance of people-centric, sustainable, and inclusive digital solutions that can drive long-term development outcomes. On the occasion, the Ambassador of India also handed over a gift from the Prime Minister of India to the Ethiopian Minister of Innovation and Technology. The gesture symbolized the warmth and depth of the longstanding friendship and partnership between the two countries.
Dr Belete Molla expressed deep appreciation for the elevation of India-Ethiopia relations to a Strategic Partnership during the recent visit of the Indian Prime Minister. He welcomed closer cooperation in digital innovation and technology, noting the potential for mutually beneficial outcomes through strengthened collaboration. The interaction reaffirmed the commitment of both governments to further enhance bilateral ties and advance cooperation in innovation, digital public infrastructure, and technology-driven development. discussions explored potential avenues for collaboration.
