India beat Australia 2-1 to take lead in Women’s Hockey Series

The Indian women’s hockey team registered a strong win over Australia in the third match of the four-game friendly series in Perth, taking a 2-1 lead in the contest.
India secured victory with two field goals, showing disciplined defence and effective counterattacks throughout the match. The opening two quarters remained goalless as both sides maintained a tight defensive structure.
The breakthrough came in the third quarter when Sonam scored in the 36th minute to give India the lead. The visitors then doubled their advantage in the final quarter through Lalremsiami in the 49th minute.
After taking a 2-0 lead, India held firm in defence, denying Australia any opportunity to stage a comeback and sealing a well-deserved win.
The result gives India a 2-1 lead in the four-match series, having earlier lost the opener 1-2 before bouncing back with a shootout win in the second match after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The ongoing tour is part of India’s preparation for major upcoming tournaments, including the Women’s Nations Cup in Auckland next month and the Hockey World Cup scheduled later in the year in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The series also plays a key role in India’s preparation for potential qualification pathways toward the FIH Pro League and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics cycle.
