Pakistan: Imran Khan gets medical examination at Adiala Jail, eyes and BP checked

Jailed former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan underwent a medical examination at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Sunday amid continued concerns over his health, according to Pakistani media reports.

A special team from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), led by doctor Arif Khan, examined the 73-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder. Medical staff from the jail hospital also assisted the visiting team.

The examination included checks of Khan’s blood pressure, cholesterol levels and eyesight. Reports from Pakistani media also said doctors from Shifa Eye Hospital were part of the medical team.

Khan has previously reported an eye-related ailment and has undergone medical assessments at PIMS. His latest check-up comes amid repeated concerns from his family and PTI over his access to healthcare in custody.

The Supreme Court had ordered in August that Khan be moved to Shifa International Hospital for medical assessment and treatment. He was instead taken to PIMS, where doctors examined him before he was returned to Adiala Jail. Government officials said at the time that he was found medically fit, while PTI criticised the handling of his treatment.

Khan has remained imprisoned since 2023 following convictions in multiple cases. PTI has continued to demand his release and has announced a September 27 protest march in Islamabad. The latest medical examination comes as the party maintains its concerns about his health and treatment in custody.
