High-speed car rams four vehicles in Okhla

A high-speed crash involving a luxury electric SUV on a busy service road in Okhla Industrial Area on Friday afternoon left the driver injured and at least four vehicles damaged. Police said an Audi Q8 e-tron lost control on the service road in front of A-230, Okhla Phase-I, and rammed into three parked cars before crashing into the rear of a stationary truck.
The incident was reported at 12:41 pm, when multiple PCR calls alerted the police to a collision involving several vehicles. The driver of the Audi was the only person injured in the accident. No pedestrians or occupants of the parked vehicles were hurt, police said, as all the vehicles struck by the Audi were unoccupied at the time.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) said that preliminary findings indicate a loss of control at high speed. “An Audi Q8 e-tron lost control on the service road and hit three parked vehicles before coming to a halt after crashing into a stationary truck. The driver was injured and shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. No other person was injured,” the DCP said.
According to police, the Audi, bearing registration number HP-38J-0996, first hit three parked cars: HR-51CF-6467, DL-3CDB-4682 and DL-3CCW-8548.
The impact was strong enough to push the vehicle forward, where it finally slammed into a truck with registration number DL-1MB-3734, which was parked along the roadside.
Local residents and shop owners said they heard a loud crash and rushed out, fearing a major accident.
“The sound was very loud. We thought several people must have been injured. Luckily, no one was standing near the parked cars,” said a factory worker from the area. A PCR van arrived at the scene within minutes and transported the injured driver to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. Hospital officials said the driver is stable and undergoing treatment. The extent of his injuries was not immediately disclosed.
Police said a case is being registered against the driver of the Audi under relevant sections of law. The damaged vehicles have been removed from the road to restore traffic flow. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from nearby establishments to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine the exact cause of the crash. “Speeding appears to be a factor, but we are checking all aspects, including road conditions and possible mechanical issues,” an officer said.
The accident has again drawn attention to safety issues on service roads in industrial areas, where high-end vehicles often speed through narrow stretches meant for local traffic.
Traffic experts say these roads are particularly dangerous due to parked vehicles, pedestrians and sudden turns. “Service roads are not designed for high-speed driving. When powerful cars are driven rashly on such stretches, even a small error can lead to a major crash,” said a senior traffic official.
Residents have demanded stricter enforcement and speed monitoring in Okhla’s industrial pockets, especially during peak working hours. “Heavy vehicles, parked cars and workers all share the same road here. Speeding cars are a daily risk,” said a local trader.
Delhi Police said action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation. Officials also appealed to motorists to follow speed limits and drive cautiously, particularly on service roads and industrial stretches.
The incident adds to a growing list of crashes in the city linked to overspeeding, prompting renewed calls for tighter checks and better road safety measures.
