Gujarat unveils shipbuilding and repair policy 2026

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Monday launched the Gujarat Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Policy 2026, aimed at transforming the state into a leading national and global centre for shipbuilding and maritime manufacturing.

With Gujarat having India’s longest coastline of around 2,340 km, the policy seeks to leverage the state’s port infrastructure, industrial ecosystem and maritime heritage. It focuses on modern infrastructure, advanced technology, sustainable development and investor-friendly measures.

The policy is aligned with the Centre’s Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme 2025, Maritime Vision 2047 and the broader vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A key feature of the policy is the proposed development of Integrated Mega Shipbuilding Parks (IMSPs). The Centre has approved a mega greenfield shipbuilding cluster at Kuchhadi in Porbandar district. 

To support the industrial ecosystem, common marine and land-based infrastructure is worth approximately Rs 3,300 crore is proposed.
