Greater Noida: Student rusticated after assault video goes viral

A female student has been rusticated from a private university in Greater Noida after a video showing her allegedly slapping and verbally abusing another student inside a hostel room surfaced on social media and triggered widespread outrage.
The university identified the incident as a dispute between two students of the same batch and said it was not a case of ragging. Police, however, said no formal complaint had been received till Tuesday.
The video, which spread rapidly online, shows a group of female students gathered inside a room while one student is forced to repeatedly apologise.
In the footage, a girl can be heard telling the victim to keep saying sorry, adding that every apology would be answered with a slap. Moments later, another student is seen holding the victim and slapping her several times as others remain present in the room.
The disturbing visuals led to strong reactions on social media, with many users demanding strict punishment and questioning student safety inside campuses. Responding to the controversy, Bennett University said it had carried out a preliminary enquiry immediately after the matter came to its notice.
Registrar Ajay Kumar Yadav said the university found that the incident involved an interpersonal conflict between two students and did not fall under ragging. He said disciplinary action had already been taken and the accused student had been rusticated from the institution.
Yadav added that a detailed enquiry was still underway to examine all circumstances related to the incident and identify the role of other students present during the assault.
