GRAPEVINE

BJP reset post May 4!
With a complete change in Bihar, the BJP is very hopeful this time to gain West Bengal in the assembly elections. Grapevine has it that the top leadership may consider a 360-degree overhaul of the current States ‘leaderships’. They will likely make exceptions only for Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. The Nitish Kumar reset in politics will also bring changes to current representations in the Union Council of Ministers, both from the BJP and allies. The leadership is keen on reducing the average age of governance, following the adage ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’. BJP new gen chief Nitin Nabin has already begun discussions to build a new team before the third-year celebrations of Narendra Modi’s third tenure begin in June.

Who gave money to Varma
Legal professionals are debating who provided funds to disgraced judge Yashwant Varma. Many are analysing Varma’s judgments delivered in favour of certain parties over the past two years in commercial and tax disputes. Several of Varma’s decisions have been overturned by the Supreme Court.
Others are reviewing the names of frequently appearing lawyers in Varma’s judgments. Practising attorneys report that Varma issued around 40-50 favourable rulings in tax and commercial matters. Observers are monitoring whether the Government will initiate action against Varma by directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct an inquiry. Since Varma resigned before impeachment, his immunity has ended, and the Government can file a case concerning the alleged cash-burning event at his official residence.

Internal bickering in Mahila Congress
Mahila Congress national president Alka Lamba and Tamil Nadu unit president Hazeena Sayed quarreled in Press conference, leading to latter’s expulsion from the party. Sayed has continued the fight on social media, leaking messages of their spat. Now, Alka Lamba issued a legal notice for defaming her. No Congress leader is entering as a negotiator to end this tussle ongoing for the past 4-5 days. They say initial days, those who entered in this mudslinging by women leaders got mud on them from both sides. Better to keep off when pick fights, say veteran leaders.
