Govt to institute Sant Kabir awards, competitions to inspire youth

The Delhi Government organised a state-level celebration on Sunday to mark the birth anniversary of Sant Kabir Das. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that competitions and awards will be instituted in the saint-poet’s name to promote his teachings among the younger generation.
She said Sant Kabir Das’s ideals of social harmony, equality and humanity remain as relevant today as they were centuries ago. She said the initiative aims to familiarise youth with Kabir’s teachings, couplets and message of brotherhood while strengthening the values of national unity and human dignity. The Chief Minister said Delhi symbolises India’s diversity and
cultural unity, where every individual deserves equal opportunity and dignity.
Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment BL Verma, Delhi Social Welfare and SC/ST/OBC Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh, MLA Neelam Pahalwan, representatives of social and religious organisations, scholars, senior officials and members of the saint community also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Ravinder Indraj Singh said Sant Kabir Das challenged caste discrimination, social inequality and other social evils while advocating a society based on truth, love and righteous conduct. He said Kabir’s teachings continue to inspire social justice, equality and universal human values, and reaffirmed the Delhi government’s commitment to preserving India’s cultural heritage and promoting social welfare.
The minister said the Social Welfare Department is implementing several initiatives for youth, women and underprivileged communities while working to connect younger generations with the ideals of great social reformers.
The programme featured devotional music, cultural performances and a seminar on Sant Kabir Das’s life and philosophy. Participants also took a pledge to uphold his ideals of harmony, brotherhood and humanity, with the event concluding with a collective resolve to build a more just, inclusive and developed society.
