Govt rolls out development works of Rs 100 crore in RK Puram

The Delhi Government on Sunday rolled out development works worth about Rs 100 crore in the RK Puram Assembly constituency.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the projects, which span road reconstruction, park redevelopment, community facilities and public health infrastructure. The Chief Minister also reiterated that funding would not be a constraint for development anywhere in the capital.
The projects aim to upgrade basic civic amenities across RK Puram, including the construction and repair of internal roads, renovation of old and dilapidated chaupals, modernisation of community centres and large-scale beautification of neighbourhood parks. Open-air gym equipment will be installed to promote fitness, while boundary walls will be built at vulnerable locations to improve safety and upkeep of public spaces.
Addressing residents after inaugurating the works, the Chief Minister said that the government had adopted a comprehensive, area-based development approach to ensure visible improvements in daily life. “There will be no shortage of funds for development works in Delhi,” she said, adding that public representatives have been assured full financial support to address long-pending local needs.
The Chief Minister said several parts of Delhi, including RK Puram, had witnessed stalled development for years due to limited funds and fragmented planning. She said the new projects were designed to give the constituency a “new identity” by improving connectivity, strengthening community infrastructure and creating cleaner, safer public spaces.
The Chief Minister highlighted that RK Puram has a significant population living in jhuggi clusters and underserved colonies. She said the government’s policy was not to remove such settlements but to improve living conditions by providing essential services. These include permanent housing solutions, toilets and bathing facilities, paved roads, proper drainage, parks and play areas for children. “Development must be inclusive and dignified,” she said.
The Chief Minister said that soon after taking office, her government released nearly Rs 700 crore to ensure that development works worth around Rs 10 crore could be taken up in each Assembly constituency. The aim, she said, was to ensure uniform access to modern facilities across income groups, whether in jhuggi clusters, middle-class neighbourhoods or affluent areas.
The Chief Minister also used the occasion to list broader governance initiatives undertaken by her government over the past 11 months. She said several welfare schemes that had remained stalled for years were revived, including pension programmes for eligible beneficiaries. New ration cards are being issued, and electricity connections are being extended to properties that previously lacked formal access.
On environmental issues, the Chief Minister said the government had launched a focused campaign to clean the Yamuna, accelerate the removal of legacy waste from landfill sites and cut air pollution. She pointed to the induction of electric buses into the city fleet and the expansion of public transport as key steps to reduce vehicular emissions.
She said the pace of change in Delhi had accelerated in less than a year and that residents would see even more visible transformation in the coming years. “We have completed only 11 months, but the direction is clear,” she said. “Delhi will become a clean, green, modern and well-developed capital.”
Local representatives said the projects would address long-standing civic issues in R.K. Puram. Residents have repeatedly flagged poor road conditions, inadequate community spaces and a lack of recreational facilities, especially in densely populated pockets. Officials said the new works would be monitored closely to ensure timely completion and quality standards.
The event was attended by Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj, R.K. Puram MLA Anil Sharma, Municipal Councillor Dharamveer Singh, district BJP president Ravindra Chaudhary and senior local officials. Several residents also attended the inauguration and welcomed the launch of multiple projects in one phase.
