Govt launches Rs 64 crore drainage project on Nangloi-Najafgarh Road

The Delhi Government on Tuesday launched a Rs 64 crore road strengthening and drainage project on the Nangloi-Najafgarh Road.
The project aimed to end chronic waterlogging, traffic congestion and pollution in the area. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid the foundation stone for the project, which is expected to benefit lakhs of daily commuters and residents.
The project focuses on comprehensive drainage construction and road reconstruction along the corridor, which has for decades faced flooding during the monsoon, overflowing drains, potholes and frequent traffic snarls. Officials said the work will ensure smooth stormwater flow, dust-free roads and safer travel conditions once completed. LG Saxena said the project fulfils a long-pending demand of residents of Nangloi and Najafgarh.
“This work, costing Rs 64 crore, will bring lasting relief from waterlogging, pollution and congestion. It is a concrete step to resolve problems people have faced for years,” he said. He recalled visiting the area in September 2024, when roads were damaged and sewage flowed on streets, and said corrective action had then been directed.
The LG said the project goes beyond road resurfacing and includes the construction of proper drains, footpaths and a central verge. “Better roads will improve traffic management, reduce accidents and significantly cut dust and pollution,” he said, adding that coordinated development works are key to sustainable urban improvement.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the project marked a major boost for West Delhi and reflected the government’s focus on basic infrastructure. “Work that could not begin in 11 years has started within 11 months. This is a permanent solution to a long-neglected problem,” she said. The Chief Minister added that her government had prioritised drainage and road works across the city to tackle monsoon-related issues.
She said multiple large drainage projects were underway to address waterlogging across Delhi.
