Govt increases capital expenditure from Rs 28,115 crore to Rs 30,248 crore

The Delhi Government has increased the Capital expenditure from Rs 28,115 crore to Rs 30,248 crore in the revised estimate for the current fiscal year 2025-26 to pump more money into infrastructure, transport, education and civic services while retaining its budget size at `1 lakh crore. This was approved in the Delhi Assembly on Friday.
The revised estimates show a clear shift towards Capital spending. More funds have been directed at roads, metro projects, public transport, municipal bodies and power subsidies that directly affect daily life in the capital. Revenue expenditure has been reduced. Officials said the move reflects a focus on building assets rather than routine spending.
A senior government official said the revised budget aims to “deliver visible improvements on the ground” in mobility, public services and education. The transport sector has emerged as one of the biggest gainers. Allocation for transport, including roads and bridges, has been increased from Rs 12,952 crore to Rs 16,024 crore. Its share in the budget has risen from 13 per cent to 16 per cent.
The Government has nearly doubled funds for strengthening roads. An additional Rs 496 crore has been allocated, taking the total to Rs 996 crore. Officials said better road surfaces will help reduce dust pollution and traffic disruptions. Delhi Metro received a major boost. Funding for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has been increased by Rs 2,117 crore, taking the total allocation to Rs 5,046.66 crore. The funds are expected to support expansion, maintenance and safety upgrades.
Public bus services have also been strengthened. The Delhi Transport Corporation has been given Rs 653 crore more, raising its allocation to Rs 3,433 crore. The aim is to improve fleet availability and service reliability. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been allocated Rs 11,428 crore, an increase of Rs 1,031 crore.
The additional funds are expected to support sanitation, road repairs, garbage collection and local civic works. Water infrastructure has received a boost through higher support for the Delhi Jal Board. The Government increased loans to DJB by Rs 1,000 crore, taking the total to Rs 3,500 crore.
