Govt announces Rs 6,000 monthly aid for PwD

The Delhi Government is strengthening financial assistance, residential facilities and support systems for persons with disabilities. Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj on Saturday announced key welfare measures, including a Rs 6,000 monthly assistance scheme for individuals with high support needs. He said these initiatives are part of the government's push toward inclusive development for persons with disabilities.
Speaking at events organised on the occasion of World Braille Day and the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the minister said the government was committed at every level to the empowerment of children and students with disabilities. The programmes were held at Braille Bhawan in Rohini and at Seva Kutir Hostel in Kingsway Camp, which houses visually impaired college students.
At the events, Indraj honoured talented visually impaired students for their achievements and paid tribute to Louis Braille, whose invention revolutionised education and access to knowledge for visually impaired persons worldwide. The minister said physical limitations do not define a person’s potential. “What truly determines how high one can rise is determination, discipline and mindset,” he said, noting that the performances by students reflected exceptional confidence and resilience despite limited resources.
The Minister announced that the Delhi Government has implemented a scheme providing Rs 6,000 per month to support the care of persons with disabilities who require high levels of assistance. He said the initiative was aimed at easing the financial burden on families and caregivers, while ensuring dignity and a better quality of life for beneficiaries.
