Government to build 100-ft Lord Ram statue in Mangolpuri

Inspired by the Lord Ram statue in Ayodhya’s River Saryu, the Delhi Government plans to build a 100-foot-tall statue of Lord Ram in Mangolpuri. A proposal to this effect has been approved by the Delhi Rural Development Board on Saturday.
Sharing the details, Board chairman Raj Kumar Chauhan told The Pioneer that the Board has approved a proposal to build a 100-foot-tall statue of Lord Shri Ram at a cost of about Rs 55 crore in Mangolpuri Kalan village, located in the Mangolpuri area. It will take approximately 18 months to build this statue.
Chauhan also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra for approving the project. He said there is a huge park in Mangolpuri Kalan village where the statue will be installed. The entire area will be developed as a picnic spot. The statue’s base will be about 10 feet high, atop which an 81-foot statue of Lord Shri Ram holding a bow and arrow will be placed, with a large canopy installed above it. He said it would strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for rural development.
Elaborating on the project’s objectives, Chauhan stated that the park would be developed as a cultural, spiritual, and community public space. Regarding the statue of Lord Shri Ram, he said it symbolises courage, righteousness, sacrifice, and ideal leadership. In the statue, Lord Shri Ram will be depicted standing on a lotus flower with his bow resting on the ground, in a posture of blessing, symbolising both strength and compassion.
“The statue will incorporate traditional artistic embellishments and symbolic elements like a halo. The structure will be built with a strong RCC foundation, steel framework, and outer metal cladding to ensure long-term durability and safety. The park’s redevelopment will also include landscaping, lighting, seating arrangements, and other park facilities under this project,” he said.
Besides, the Board has approved a total of 574 projects with a total cost of around Rs 1,317 crore for the development of rural and dehat areas. Of the total project, the Board meeting was attended by Rural Development Board Vice-Chairman Gajendra Daral and members Neelam Pahalwan, Rajkaran Khatri, Kuldeep Solanki, and Ravindra Negi.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a massive 77-foot bronze statue of Lord Ram at the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math in Partagali, in South Goa. The unveiling by Modi was part of the 550th-year celebrations of the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math. This is the tallest statue of Lord Ram in the world. The 108-foot-tall statue of Lord Ram in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, which will cost over Rs 500 crore, is under construction.
