Government targets 70 lakh saplings in mega green drive

The Delhi Government will launch an ambitious citywide plantation campaign aimed at planting 70 lakh saplings across the national capital. The Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, herself reviewed the preparations for the initiative at a high-level meeting on Monday.
Named the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam — Delhi Mega Plantation Drive 2026”, the campaign is planned as a large public participation programme and is expected to involve citizens, educational institutions, resident welfare associations, religious organisations, and community groups across Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to participate in different phases of the campaign.
The Chief Minister chaired a review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat attended by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and senior government officials.
Discussions focused on plantation targets, digital monitoring systems, public outreach, departmental responsibilities, and citizen engagement strategies. According to the plan, the campaign will be implemented in three phases.
The first phase will begin on June 22 with a digital launch. The Delhi Government will introduce the e-Forest Green Drive Portal along with the campaign’s official promotional video. A large-scale awareness campaign through digital and social media platforms will also commence.
Between June 22 and July 4, the government will conduct outreach programmes involving social, educational, religious, and community organisations to encourage public participation.
The second phase will be organised during the first week of July and will focus on ecological restoration in the Delhi Ridge area. Plantation activities will take place at locations including PBG Ground, Central Ridge, South Central Ridge, and Nanakpura Ridge. Around 2.5 lakh saplings are scheduled to be planted on a single day. Volunteers participating in the campaign will also be formally flagged off during this phase.
The largest phase is planned for mid-July. The central event will be held at Swarn Jayanti Park in Rohini and will be connected live with 51 locations across Delhi. Government officials expect nearly 11,000 participants to plant saplings simultaneously during the programme. The event will be broadcast in real time from all participating locations. Officials said the campaign will cover all 70 Assembly constituencies and 13 districts of Delhi. The target is to plant 70 lakh saplings during the broader Seva Parv period.
To encourage participation, the government has developed a digital registration system through the e-Forest Green Drive Portal. Residents will be able to register using basic details such as their name, address, and mobile number.
