Government rolls out heat relief drive across Capital

The Delhi Government has launched an extensive heat relief campaign across the capital, deploying Mobile Heat Relief Units and setting up Cooling Zones to help citizens cope with severe heatwave conditions. Officials said relief measures carried out between May 6 and May 23 reached nearly 2.65 lakh people across all 13 districts of the city.
The initiative, under the supervision of the Revenue Department, includes distributing cold drinking water, ORS packets, caps, and cotton towels to labourers, commuters, and vulnerable people exposed to extreme temperatures.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Government was working on the ground to ensure that people do not suffer during the ongoing heatwave. “The objective of the Delhi Government is not only administration but also ensuring the safety and convenience of every citizen,” she said.
According to the Government, around 1,13,900 litres of cold drinking water were distributed during the campaign to protect people from dehydration and heat-related illnesses. More than one lakh ORS packets were also handed out across the city. Officials said the Government distributed 44,646 cotton towels and 30,864 caps to help people shield themselves from direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours.
The Chief Minister said the campaign has focused especially on labourers, rickshaw pullers, daily wage workers, commuters, and people working outdoors in harsh weather conditions. Authorities have also established Cooling Zones at multiple locations across Delhi to provide temporary shelter and relief from the heat.
