Government lays foundation stone for community centre in Rohini

The Delhi Government on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a community centre at Sector 20 in Rohini, to be built in the name of Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, a project that had been awaited for the past 32 years.
The project, announced ahead of Ambedkar’s 136th birth anniversary on April 14, will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 3.62 crore. It is expected to be completed in two years.
In addition to the community centre, the government will also beautify Valmiki Park and renovate a sewer line in the area, with an estimated cost of Rs 3.61 crore.
Addressing a gathering, Delhi Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh said the initiative is aimed at improving civic facilities for residents, particularly those from weaker sections.
Acknowledging that problems related to sewerage and water supply had persisted for years in the area, Singh assured that these would now be resolved as a priority. He also emphasised the need for public participation in development works, assuring that the Government would extend necessary support.
According to a statement, the proposed community centre will be a double-storeyed, air-conditioned building with a hall for social and cultural functions. Provisions will also be made to develop facilities such as an Atal Canteen and basic healthcare services in the future.
The minister said a monitoring mechanism would be put in place to ensure quality construction and timely completion of the project.
