Ghatkesar couple death probe widens as police investigate forced conversion allegations

The investigation into the deaths of a couple found on railway tracks between Bibinagar and Ghatkesar in Telangana has widened after allegations of forced religious conversion surfaced. Police are examining claims made by the couple's elder son while continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
According to the Secunderabad Railway Police, the bodies of a 42-year-old rice trader and his 33-year-old wife were discovered on the railway tracks on the night of July 2 after a train loco pilot alerted authorities. A motorcycle found near the spot and belongings recovered from the deceased helped establish their identities.
During the investigation, the couple's elder son alleged that their neighbours had been pressuring his parents to convert to Christianity. Police said they are collecting evidence to verify the allegations and have questioned those connected to the case. Officials have stressed that the claims are part of an ongoing investigation and no conclusions have been reached.
Investigators are also examining reports of financial distress faced by the couple, including alleged business-related losses and debt, as possible factors behind the incident. Police said all angles, including the allegations of religious coercion and financial issues, are being investigated before determining the cause of the deaths.
The couple is survived by their two minor sons. Authorities said further details will be shared after the investigation is completed.
