Four servicemen arrested for gangrape in UP
The Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday arrested four servicemen after a 23-year-old woman from Fatehabad in Haryana accused them of raping her at a farmhouse linked to an Uttarakhand MLA in Amroha. The police arrested the four men, including two UP police officers and two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, within hours of the woman’s complaint.
The accused include Hasanpur police station Sub-Inspector Sanjay Tomar, Head Constable Pramod Malik, CRPF Inspector Lalaram Yadav from Alwar in Rajasthan, and CRPF Head Constable Mohit from Muzaffarnagar. The police allege the woman was first approached on 20 September by a friend who asked her to meet the accused CRPF constable to go on a trip to various religious sites in Amroha. She met him the following day in Sonipat. Lalaram joined them on the way at Meerut.
On September 22, they drove her to Hasanpur and picked up Tomar. The group arrived at the farmhouse and reserved two rooms, where first, Mohit, Lalram and Tomar took turns to rape her. When Pramod arrived, she pushed him out and locked the door. She searched for the telephone number of Amroha police station and called at about 6 am on September 23. Teams from the Hasanpur and Rajabpur stations went to the place, secured her and took the four men into custody.
An FIR was filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to abduction or enticement and gang rape, and all four individuals were sent to judicial custody, with their court appearance scheduled for Thursday. Tomar and Malik have been suspended, and departmental proceedings for their dismissal have been initiated.
A report suggesting action against the two CRPF personnel has been forwarded to their headquarters.
Police are questioning the farmhouse manager. The investigation is still ongoing into how the rooms were booked, the precise order of events at the property, and the roles of everyone who was there that night, a senior Amroha police official said.
