Flash floods, landslides ravage J&K's Doda; Homes buried, highway blocked

Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods and massive landslides in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, causing widespread destruction, burying houses and shops under debris, and disrupting road connectivity in the mountainous region. Rescue teams have been deployed as authorities assess the extent of the damage.
The worst-hit areas include Thathri and Kashtigarh, where floodwaters and mudslides swept through residential settlements. Several vehicles were buried under debris, while homes, commercial establishments and public infrastructure suffered extensive damage. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.
Heavy rain also triggered landslides near the under-construction Kwar Hydroelectric Power Project, blocking the Doda-Kishtwar Highway and leaving several vehicles stranded. Restoration work is underway, but continuous rainfall has hampered clearance operations.

Local authorities, police and disaster response teams have launched relief and rescue operations, while residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain indoors and avoid travel unless necessary. Officials are closely monitoring river levels and weather conditions amid fears of further landslides.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall across parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days, prompting authorities to remain on high alert as the active monsoon continues to impact the region.
