Five held in murder of CJP worker’s father

The police on Sunday arrested five people on charges of beating to death the father of a Cockroach Janata Party volunteer in Bankura district. The incident took place on Friday, and the victim died on Saturday.
Sk Mafik, the father of CJP volunteer Shaik Abdul Hafeez, was reportedly attacked by some alleged supporters of the BJP for visiting a local Government school to inspect as per the “school theek karo (repair the school)” programme earlier organised by the CJP leadership.
“They came in search of me and as they could not find me they beat up my father… he received head injuries and died… they had earlier asked me to upload a video apologising for my act of visiting the school… they also asked me to acknowledge that I had gone to that school at the behest of outside CJP leaders,” Hafeez said. While the national CJP leadership demanded impartial investigation into the matter Bengal Chief Minister denied role of his party.
He said “as the Home Minister, I must say that the police have promptly acted and arrested three out of five people named… other five also have been detained… there is no BJP connection here… they are criminals … investigations are on and law will take its own course.”
State minister Agnimitra Paul said that “unlike the TMC regime, the police have acted immediately and will not spare anyone… BJP or else.” Senior CJP leader Asutosh Ranka was likely to visit Bengal in a few days’ time, one was told.
