Firefighters rescue 23 after fire breaks out in Rohini residential building

Firefighters rescued 23 people, including residents stranded on balconies, after a fire broke out on the ground floor of a four-storey residential building in Rohini on Tuesday morning, while a separate blast in a piped natural gas pipeline in west Delhi’s Subhash Nagar left a 42-year-old man with 85 per cent burn injuries late Monday night.
According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), the blaze broke out on Shamshan Ghat Road in Vijay Vihar Phase-2. Two people sustained injuries and were admitted to Jaipur Golden Hospital, where their condition is stable.
Officials said the fire erupted on the ground floor of the four-storey building, gutting 18 electricity meters and six vehicles (three scooties, two motorcycles, and a bicycle). As thick smoke rapidly spread through the building, several residents were trapped inside their homes and on balconies, triggering panic in the area. Videos from the scene showed firefighters using ladders to evacuate residents stranded on upper floors, while sparks and flames continued to erupt from the electricity meter section on the ground floor.
DFS officials said fire personnel rescued 22 people, while locals rescued one resident before firefighters reached the spot. The blaze was brought under control by around 8 am. Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have originated in the electricity meter section on the ground floor, though the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.
In another fire incident reported late Monday night, a 42-year-old man suffered serious burn injuries after a suspected blast in a piped natural gas (PNG) pipeline triggered a blaze at a ground-plus-three-storey residential building in Subhash Nagar.
Fire officials received a call regarding the incident at around 10:20 pm, following which two fire tenders and a water bowser were rushed to the spot. The injured man, identified as Vijay Kumar, sustained nearly 85 per cent burn injuries and was admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the suspected PNG pipeline blast.
