Father attempts to burn 2 daughters alive in Maharashtra over family dispute

Beed: In a shocking incident from Maharashtra’s Beed district, a man allegedly tried to set his two minor daughters on fire after pouring diesel on them following a family dispute, police said.
According to officials, the accused, identified as Mahesh Vishnu Somase, carried out the act in Lahamewadi village in Majalgaon tehsil on May 2.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a domestic conflict with his wife, who had been staying at her parental home after a dispute. When the accused reached there with the children and insisted that she return home, she refused and suggested involving community elders to resolve the matter.
Angered by this, the man allegedly threatened his wife and her family before taking out a can of diesel from his motorcycle and pouring it on his daughters, aged around 4 and 5. He then attempted to ignite the fuel using a matchbox.
A major tragedy was averted when a relative intervened in time and snatched the matchbox from his hand, preventing the children from being set ablaze.
Police have registered a case against the accused and launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities said further legal action will follow as the probe progresses.
