Family assaulted, stripped in Delhi dispute

A five year dispute over ownership of a gym in east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar led to a clash with a man beaten, his wife allegedly molested, and their son stripped and assaulted in public, police said on Monday as they arrested one accused while others remain at large. The police received a PCR call regarding the incident on January 2. Upon reaching the spot, officials found the complainant and his family members injured. They were taken to Hedgewar Hospital for treatment. One of the accused, identified as Satish, who worked as a caretaker at a gym owned by the victims, has been arrested while others are at large. The assault, recorded on CCTV, continued even after police reached the spot, raising concerns over impunity and alleged political influence.
The victims have been identified as Rajesh Garg, the owner of the house, and his son. Garg had allowed a group of men to operate a gym from a section of the ground floor of his house around five years ago under a profit-sharing arrangement, a family relative said. “They were given the space to run the gym. The understanding was simple, they would operate the business and share profits with the owner,” the relative told. “This continued for some time.”
Problems began about a year ago when the operators allegedly stopped sharing profits and began asserting control over the premises. According to the family, the accused locked the commercial space and refused to vacate despite repeated demands.”For the last six months, there was constant tension. They stopped paying and said they would not leave,” the relative said.
“They behaved as if the property belonged to them.” With negotiations failing, Garg decided to reclaim his property. On January 2, the family planned to break the lock and regain possession. Fearing violence, they informed the local police in advance, the relative said. “But before the lock could be broken, they arrived with goons,” he said.
According to the family, Garg and his wife went to inspect the locked area after noticing a water leak. The accused allegedly followed them inside and assaulted Garg. His wife, Rita Garg, alleged she was molested during the attack. “They dragged him (my husband) into the gym, stripped him, and beat him with iron rods. They threatened to end his bloodline,” she said in the FIR. When the couple’s son rushed to intervene, the violence escalated.
CCTV footage shows goons arriving in a Thar SUV at high speed outside the house. They tried to hit Garg near the entrance. The vehicle missed him and hit the pavement, breaking concrete slabs. Broken vehicle parts are visible at the site. Several men then got out and began beating Garg. Two more men arrived on a motorcycle and joined in. The attackers allegedly dragged Garg’s son onto the street, stripped him naked, and assaulted him in public view. “There were 10 to 12 people,” the relative said. “No one helped. People just watched.”
Videos show the attackers lingering even after police arrived. One policeman is seen later helping the young man cover himself. By then, both father and son were severely injured and rushed to the hospital, where they remain under treatment.
Police have registered a case under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt. One accused, Satish Yadav, identified by the family as the main operator of the fitness centre, has been arrested. Four others, Vikas Yadav, Shubham Yadav, Omkar Yadav, and Pintu Yadav, are absconding.
The family has alleged that one of the absconding accused, Omkar Yadav, flaunts political proximity on social media with photos alongside BJP leaders J P Nadda and Rajnath Singh. “They had no fear,” Rita Garg said. “They kept saying nothing would happen to them.” Police said three teams have been formed to arrest the remaining accused. CCTV footage and call records are being examined.
A crime most foul
New Delhi: A 25-year-old man allegedly killed his mother, sister and younger brother at their home in east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar on Monday evening and later walked into a police station to surrender. Police suspect financial distress as the motive behind the triple murder.
The accused, identified as Yashveer Singh, reached the Laxmi Nagar police station around 5 pm and told officers that he had killed three members of his family due to severe economic hardship. The disclosure triggered panic at the police station, after which teams rushed to the address provided by him.
Inside the house, police found the bodies of three people lying in separate rooms. The deceased were identified as Yashveer’s mother, Kavita (46), sister Meghna (24) and brother Mukul (14). The bodies were taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination.
Senior police officers said preliminary investigation suggests that the victims may have been poisoned.
According to police, Yashveer was unemployed, and the family had been facing serious financial problems for a long time. Investigators are probing whether debt, lack of income or other pressures pushed him to take the extreme step.
Crime team and forensic experts inspected the house and collected samples, including food items, utensils and medicines found at the scene. Police are also checking the family’s financial records and speaking to relatives to understand the background of the case.
