Fake call centre busted, 12 held

The Delhi Police has busted a fake call centre operating in central Delhi’s Guru Arjun Nagar and apprehended 12 people, including two proprietors, for allegedly cheating customers by selling fraudulent roadside assistance policies.
The operation was carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Central District following specific intelligence inputs. The accused were running the call centre under the name “RD Services” and had been targeting customers across the country. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central District, Rohit Rajbir Singh, said the racket was unearthed after credible information was received about the illegal operation.
“The accused were running a fake call centre and cheating people by selling roadside assistance policies without providing any actual service,” he said. He added that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
Police said the raid was conducted on April 4 at Rattan Lal Complex in Guru Arjun Nagar under the jurisdiction of the Ranjeet Nagar police station.
A police team carried out the operation and found the call centre functioning with multiple telecallers actively making calls to potential victims. Among those apprehended are the two proprietors, identified as Sourabh and Shahnawaz, both aged 28 years. Ten telecallers, including men and women in their early twenties, were also detained from the premises.
During the investigation, police found that the accused used to contact customers through random calls as well as targeted data.
They offered roadside assistance services for vehicles, claiming that help would be provided anywhere in India in case of breakdowns, tyre punctures, or emergencies.
To gain the trust of customers, the accused offered cash on delivery as a payment option. Victims were told that they would receive a plastic policy card and could make a payment upon delivery. The charges ranged between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000 per policy.
