Enumeration phase of SIR begins in Arunachal Pradesh

The enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has got underway across Arunachal Pradesh, as part of a nationwide drive by the Election Commission to update voter lists.
According to a statement issued by the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), electors whose enumeration forms are submitted by July 14 will be considered for inclusion in the draft electoral rolls.
Voters who are unable to submit the forms within the prescribed period can still seek enrolment during the claims and objections stage by filing ‘Form 6’ along with the required declaration form, it said.
As part of the exercise, booth-level officers (BLOs) have started visiting households to distribute, collect and verify enumeration forms from Monday, it said.
Election officials said the BLOs would make repeated visits, wherever necessary, to ensure wider coverage.
The Commission has expanded the role of recognised political parties in the revision process by allowing booth-level agents (BLAs) to collect up to 50 completed forms a day from the public, and hand them over to the BLOs before publication of the draft rolls, they said.
Political parties have also been encouraged to appoint additional BLAs to support the exercise.
The revision drive in Arunachal Pradesh is expected to cover 8,87,505 electors with the assistance of 2,233 BLOs and 3,131 BLAs, the statement said.
The CEO has urged all eligible voters to cooperate with election officials and actively participate in the house-to-house verification campaign to help prepare a correct, updated and inclusive electoral roll, it added.
