Education Ministry Dismisses Concerns Over CBSE On-Screen Marking System

The Ministry of Education has clarified concerns regarding the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) On-Screen Marking (OSM) system following the announcement of Class 12 results. The ministry stated that OSM is an internationally accepted evaluation process designed to ensure transparency and accuracy in marking answer sheets.

Officials explained that nearly 98 lakh answer sheets were scanned for Class 12 examinations under a three-level security system. However, some answer sheets faced visibility issues because students had used very light ink, making them difficult to read even after scanning.

To avoid any unfair impact on students’ scores, more than 13,000 such answer sheets were manually checked by examiners and the marks were then updated in the system.

The Ministry also announced major relief for students by reducing fees related to revaluation and answer sheet verification.

Students can now view their answer sheets and apply for verification at a fee of ₹100, significantly lower than previous charges. Additionally, if a student's marks increase after re-evaluation, the amount paid for the process will be refunded.

CBSE Class 12 results this year recorded an overall pass percentage of 85.20%.
