ECI to publish Bengal draft electoral rolls
The Election Commission of India (ECI) was likely to publish the draft electoral rolls for Bengal on Tuesday, five days after the submission of enumeration forms. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) ahead of the 2026 Bengal Assembly polls had started on November 4.
According to sources, while the initial total strength of the electorate stood at 7.66 crore, about 58 lakh names could be deleted in the initial phase.
About 30 lakh names had been placed in the no-mapping category when the SIR started. Apart from this, about 1.7 crore voters could be called for a hearing, sources said, adding “This is because of discrepancies in the details provided by them.”
In many cases, the fathers’ names of the voters were the same, while in other cases, their addresses or for that matter, “the age differences between the children and their parents are suspicious,” sources said.
