DU student held with Rs 20 lakh marijuana
A 22-year-old Delhi University student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree at Satyawati College has been arrested from Vijay Nagar in north Delhi with 195 grams of hydroponic marijuana, commonly known as OG, with an estimated international market value of approximately Rs 20 lakh, which he had been supplying to fellow students and other contacts to fund what police describe as a lavish lifestyle.
The accused has been identified as Jaseem Siyadul Farsan MP, a resident of Vijay Nagar Double Storey and originally from Kozhikode in Kerala. He is currently in the eighth semester of his BA programme at Satyawati College. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Northwest, Akansha Yadav, confirmed the arrest at a press conference on Tuesday. “Jaseem is a student of Satyawati College, Delhi University, and is currently pursuing a BA degree in the eighth semester,” she said.
Acting on specific intelligence about the sale of hydroponic marijuana near a park in Vijay Nagar Double Storey, a police team conducted a raid and apprehended the accused. During the operation, 195 grams of hydroponic marijuana were recovered from his possession.
A case under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered at the Model Town police station. Investigation is underway. During interrogation, Jaseem allegedly told police that he had entered the drug trade to earn quick money and sustain a lifestyle beyond what his regular means would allow. He allegedly disclosed that he procured the contraband and supplied it to customers on demand, including students of Satyawati College and other contacts, in exchange for money.
Jaseem was produced before the court following his arrest. His case is being investigated under the NDPS Act, which carries stringent penalties depending on the quantity involved. At 195 grams, the seizure falls within a range that attracts serious provisions of the Act.
Investigators are probing the full extent of his distribution network, the identity of his suppliers, and whether other students are involved in either the supply or purchase of the contraband. Police said further investigation is in progress.
The case raises questions about the supply chain that allowed a student in the eighth semester of his undergraduate programme to be in possession of a high-value consignment of a premium narcotic. Police are now attempting to trace where Jaseem procured the drugs and identify others in the chain, both suppliers above him and buyers linked to him.
The broader pattern in recent drug seizures in Delhi has pointed to an increase in the availability of hydroponic marijuana in and around university areas, with suppliers often being students themselves or individuals with direct access to college campuses. Jaseem’s alleged role as a supplier to Satyawati College students fits this pattern.
