Drone Strike Triggers Fire Near UAE’s Barakah Nuclear Plant

A drone strike triggered a fire near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region on Sunday, raising fresh concerns amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
According to UAE authorities, the incident occurred in an external electrical generator located outside the plant’s inner perimeter.
Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to control the situation.
Officials confirmed that there were no injuries and no impact on radiological safety levels or the plant’s core operations.
The UAE's Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) stated that all essential systems continued functioning normally and that the plant remained secure despite the incident.
The Barakah facility, considered the Arab world's first commercial nuclear power plant, is a major component of the UAE's energy infrastructure and supplies a significant share of the country’s electricity needs.
The incident comes at a time of heightened regional tensions and concerns over security in the Gulf region.
Authorities have not officially identified those responsible for the drone strike, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
