Deported gangster back in police custody

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), acting in tandem with the Interpol and the Thai Police, have successfully repatriated dreaded gangster Sahil Chauhan (27), alias Sahil Rana, from Thailand. Chauhan is a dreaded history-sheeter and a key member of the notorious Bhupi Rana-Bambiha gangs. Wanted in dozens of criminal cases involving murder, extortion and kidnapping, Chauhan had escaped to Thailand.
He was traced to Bangkok through Interpol channels. A dedicated CBI team got cracking to seek his deportation from Bangkok. Chauhan was handed over to a team of Haryana Police’s Special Task Force (STF) that lay in wait at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. “On request of the Haryana Police, the National Central Bureau (NCB)-New Delhi published an Interpol Red Notice against Sahil Chauhan. The subject was geo-located and deported from Bangkok and arrived in India at Delhi International Airport on April 10, 2026, where he was taken into custody by a team of Haryana Police.
Sahil Chauhan, a resident of Shahzadpur in Ambala district of Haryana, is a notorious gangster and has been involved with the underworld since 2016. There are 16 cases registered against him across Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh and Delhi. He is wanted for multiple serious offences, including murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, extortion, robbery, criminal intimidation and violations of the Arms Act.
As a feared member of the Bhupi Rana gang, he also linked to the rival Bambiha gang network. Chauhan was involved in an inter-state organised crime syndicates notorious for contract killings, extortion rackets and gang rivalries. He was involved in a daring attack on a rival gangster in Yamunanagar district. “It was a brazen incident in his criminal history when he allegedly opened fire on rival gangster Monu Rana inside the Jagadhari court complex. Monu Rana had been produced in court for a hearing in pending cases when the attack took place amid escalating gang rivalry. Haryana Police investigated the case and filed a charge sheet and Chauhan were sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.
However, he was released on bail and subsequently fled the country and evaded arrest for years. Haryana Police had then approached the CBI to issue the Interpol Red Notice.
Chauhan is also wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with multiple investigations and for running extortion rackets targeting individuals and businesses in Haryana and Punjab, despite hiding in Bangkok. His deportation marks a major blow to organised crime networks operating from foreign safe havens, the police sources said.
Investigations are expected to intensify into his overseas links, accomplices and ongoing criminal activities. This operation underscores the growing effectiveness of India’s ‘Bharatpol’ initiative and Interpol coordination in tracking fugitives. With Chauhan back in custody, the law enforcement agencies hope to dismantle remaining pockets of the Bhupi Rana and associated gangs that have long terrorised the tri-state region. Further interrogations are underway to uncover the full extent of his network.
