Delhi tribunal awards `1.06 crore compensation to MCD peon rendered unemployable in truck accident

A Delhi Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has awarded more than `1.06 crore compensation to a former Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) peon who suffered severe crush injuries in a 2021 truck accident, holding that the injuries left him incapable of earning a livelihood.
Presiding Officer Dharmender Singh was hearing a claim petition filed by Bishan Dutt Sharma, who was 57 years old at the time of the accident. In an order dated June 9, the tribunal said, “It has been proved that vehicle ie truck was being driven by Noor Ali in rash and negligent manner and while driving said vehicle in said manner collided with the motorcycle, which was being driven by claimant Bishan Dutt Sharma and who because of said collision suffered grievous hurt”.
According to the tribunal, the accident occurred on June 30, 2021, at Dhulsiras Chowk in Dwarka when Sharma’s motorcycle was hit from behind by a truck being driven in a rash and negligent manner by Noor Ali.
The tribunal noted that Sharma sustained grievous crush injuries to both lower limbs and suffered 77 per cent permanent physical disability in relation to both lower limbs.
