Delhi seeks Rs 100 crore from Centre to speed up property rights in 1,511 unauthorised colonies

The Delhi government has sought ₹100 crore from the Centre to accelerate the implementation of the revised Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY).
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has written to Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, requesting financial assistance to help grant property rights to residents of 1,511 unauthorised colonies across the national capital.
According to the proposal, the funds will be used to establish PM-UDAY cells in all 13 districts, carry out digital land surveys and mapping, physically verify properties, update land records, and launch public awareness campaigns.
The government plans to use technology-driven systems to simplify the verification process and issue property documents within the prescribed timeline under the revised PM-UDAY framework.
The revised PM-UDAY regulations aim to provide legal ownership rights to residents living in unauthorised colonies, allowing them to obtain registered property documents and access financial benefits linked to legal ownership.
The Delhi government said timely financial support from the Centre would help fast-track the process and benefit lakhs of residents awaiting formal property rights.
