Delhi Police registers 12,568 challans, files 1,170 FIRs in crackdown on wrong-side driving

Delhi Police has intensified its action against wrong-side driving violations across the capital, issuing 12,568 challans and registering 1,170 FIRs during a special enforcement drive.
The city-wide crackdown was carried out on May 22 and 23 across highways, intersections, and accident-prone stretches. During the operation, police also impounded 1,179 vehicles found violating traffic norms.
Officials said strict legal action was taken against offenders, with FIRs being registered in cases where violations posed serious safety risks or were repeatedly recorded. In earlier enforcement drives, 72 FIRs and over 7,000 challans were issued within just five days.
Delhi Traffic Police said the objective of the campaign is to curb dangerous driving practices and improve road discipline across the capital. Authorities noted that wrong-side driving remains one of the leading causes of severe road accidents, often resulting in high-impact head-on collisions.
The police further explained that FIRs are registered when violations escalate beyond routine traffic offences, especially when they pose significant danger or result in accidents.
Officials added that enforcement drives will continue in a sustained manner across the city to ensure safer traffic movement and reduce avoidable fatalities on Delhi roads.
