Delhi Police officer, kin of cops clear UPSC

One serving and two family members of personnel from the Delhi Police have cleared the prestigious Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil services examination this year, bringing pride to the force. Among the most notable achievers is Apurva Verma, a serving Assistant Commissioner of Police posted in CR Park, who secured an All-India Rank (AIR) of 42 in the exam.
Verma, who had earlier joined the police service through the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS), achieved the top fifty rank in her third attempt and is now set to join the IAS. Her success has drawn attention as she balanced her duties as a police officer while preparing for one of the country’s toughest examinations. Verma had joined the civil services earlier after clearing the exam in 2021. However, she continued preparing with the aim of becoming an IAS officer.
In another achievement linked to the police force, Ujjawal, son of Inspector Pardeep Ghanghas, secured AIR 174 in the same examination. Inspector Ghanghas belongs to the 1997 batch of Delhi Police and is currently posted as Station House Officer at Harsh Vihar police station. Another candidate connected to the police fraternity, Manjeet Singh, also cleared the exam with an All-India Rank of 490. He is the son of Assistant Sub-Inspector Rattan Singh.
The success of serving officers and children of police personnel in the civil services exam has been widely appreciated within the force. Officers said these achievements reflect dedication and perseverance despite demanding professional responsibilities and challenging family backgrounds.
The Union Public Service Commission civil services examination is considered one of the toughest competitive exams in the country, selecting candidates for top administrative services, including the IAS, IPS, and other central services.
Police officials said the accomplishments of these candidates have brought pride to the Delhi Police community and will inspire many others from the force and their families to pursue higher goals in public service.
