Delhi Police marks 79th Raising Day; giant Patel mural unveiled

Delhi Police marked its 79th Raising Day on Monday. The event was marked with a series of initiatives, including the unveiling of a 32-foot-tall 3D portrait of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Police Headquarters and the launch of a new digital platform for Police Clearance Certificates and Character Verification Reports.
Commissioner of Police Satish Golchha unveiled the grand portrait of Patel at the headquarters on Jai Singh Road in the presence of senior officers and personnel. The installation has been mounted on the front glass elevation of the building and stands 32 feet tall on the outer facade. The ceremony was described as a tribute to the “Iron Man” and a moment of pride for the force.
Addressing the Raising Day Parade at Parade Ground, New Police Lines, the Commissioner said ensuring the security of Delhi is a responsibility of national importance. He said Delhi Police draws strength from the guidance and support of the Ministry of Home Affairs in discharging its duties.
Highlighting enforcement achievements, the Commissioner said that in 2025, Delhi Police seized 6,144 kg of narcotic drugs as part of its drive towards a “Drug-Free India.” To weaken drug trafficking networks, 44 properties linked to the narcotics trade were seized during the year. Out of these, 29 properties were demolished after due legal process, he said.
To strengthen action against organised crime, a dedicated MCOCA Cell has been set up within the Crime Branch. The Special Cell is also pursuing 32 fugitives hiding abroad in coordination with central agencies. In 2025, two such criminals were deported to India from foreign countries.
In the cybercrime domain, Delhi Police became the first in the country in May 2025 to begin automatic registration of financial cybercrime cases involving amounts above Rs 10 lakh. In November 2025, the threshold was reduced to Rs 1 lakh. Such cases are now registered directly at the police station level, the Commissioner said.
Under Operation CyHawk, conducted in three phases over the past three months, 18,000 suspects were apprehended. Out of these, 3,000 were arrested or bound down, and 1,000 new FIRs were registered. The Commissioner said 83 police personnel were injured in the line of duty in the past year.
On the occasion, the Commissioner also unveiled a model trophy vitrine at the headquarters reception area to display the “Best Police Station in the Country” trophy. He planted a tree within the PHQ premises as part of an environmental initiative.
