Delhi Police bust inter-State ganja racket; 57 kg seized

Delhi Police have busted an inter-state ganja trafficking racket and recovered 57.405 kilograms of contraband during a targeted operation in North-West Delhi. One drug peddler and a driver were arrested, while a juvenile was also apprehended in the case. Police also seized a car used to transport the drugs from Bihar to Delhi for illegal sale.
Additional Commissioner of Police (North-West) Bhisham Singh said the operation was carried out under the Government’s anti-drug campaign. “Our Narcotics Squad acted swiftly on specific inputs and successfully intercepted the network. The recovery of more than 57 kg of ganja is a significant blow to drug traffickers operating in the region,” he said. He added that further investigation is underway to identify the supply chain and other links involved in the racket.
According to police, the operation began after the Narcotics Cell of the North-West district received credible information about two suspected drug peddlers active in the Subhash Place area. Acting on the tip-off, a dedicated team was formed. The team conducted surveillance and laid a trap near Char Khamba Chowk in Shakurpur village on February 22. At around 3.35 pm, a secret informer pointed out two suspects and left the spot. Within minutes, the police team moved in and apprehended the two youths at about 3.40 pm. They were identified as Rakesh Kumar, an 18-year-old resident of Patna in Bihar, and a Child in Conflict with Law (CCL). Police said Rakesh was carrying a white and black bag. When questioned about the bag, both suspects failed to give a satisfactory explanation. During interrogation, they admitted that the bag contained ganja.
Further questioning revealed that the duo was staying in a rented accommodation nearby. They took the police team to a room in Shakurpur village.
Rakesh unlocked the room using a key in his pocket. Inside, police found two cloth bags and a trolley bag. On checking the bags, officers discovered they were filled with ganja. The total weight of the contraband recovered from the four bags was 57.405 kilograms.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that the ganja had been procured from a supplier identified as Munna in Patna, Bihar. They had allegedly transported the drugs to Delhi and were searching for buyers in the area. Police said the accused planned to sell the contraband to various clients in the Capital to earn higher profits.
Following the seizure, a case was registered at Subhash Place police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The case was registered as FIR No. 82/26 dated February 22 under Sections 20, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act. During further investigation, police also arrested Chandrsan, a 28-year-old resident of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. He was identified as the driver of the car used to transport the drugs.
Police recovered the vehicle bearing registration number UP-25 FT 3XXX during the operation. During interrogation, Chandrsan told police that he was hired as a driver and had transported a man identified as Fahim, a resident of Bareilly. Fahim is believed to be another link in the drug supply network.
Police said efforts are underway to trace Fahim and other members of the racket. Investigators are also trying to identify the main supplier and determine whether the accused were involved in other drug trafficking activities.
