Delhi minor missing after drain fall

A 15-year-old boy remains missing more than 24 hours after falling into an open drain in Delhi's Jasola while chasing a kite on Saturday. The teams from the Delhi Fire Service, NDRF and Boat Club are yet to trace him despite an ongoing search operation.
The boy, identified as Mithun, fell into the drain around 11 am on Saturday and was swept away by the current. Rescue efforts have continued since then, but officials said the search has been hampered by the continuous flow of water in the drain, which has emerged as a major obstacle in locating him.
According to the Delhi Fire Service, information about the incident was received at 11.54 am on Saturday, following which two fire tenders were dispatched to the spot and a search operation was launched.
Mithun's aunt, Kusum, questioned the initial response to the incident, alleging delays in the rescue effort. "If the police had put efforts to rescue him then, then he could have been saved. The police came to the accident scene twice since 11 am yesterday but couldn't rescue him," she said.
The family originally hails from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh and had moved to Delhi in search of work. Mithun is the youngest of four siblings, with one sister and two brothers.
The NDRF resumed its search operation on Sunday, combing through the drain and adjoining stretches in an effort to locate the teenager. However, no trace of Mithun has been found so far, and his body has not been recovered as of the latest update.
Officials said the search operation would continue until the boy is located, with teams working through the drain's flow and adjoining areas in coordination with district authorities. The open nature of the drain, combined with the continuous water flow, has made the recovery effort particularly challenging for rescue personnel involved in the search.
As the search entered its second day, family members remained at the site, anxiously awaiting updates from the rescue teams. Authorities have not provided a timeline for when the search operation might conclude, given the ongoing challenges posed by the water flow in the drain.
