Delhi marks ‘Shaurya Diwas’ at Connaught Place

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta paid tribute to the Indian Armed Forces during a “Shaurya Diwas” programme organised at Central Park in Connaught Place to mark one year of Operation Sindoor.
The event, organised by the Delhi government, drew a large gathering of citizens, ex-servicemen, youth, and representatives of social organisations. Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra was also present at the programme, which focused on honouring the courage and sacrifice of the armed forces.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said Operation Sindoor had sent a strong message that India would not compromise on its security, sovereignty, or national dignity. She said the operation reflected the collective emotions and pride of 1.4 billion Indians.
The Chief Minister described the April 22 terror attack as a painful incident that had deeply affected the country. She said the attack on innocent civilians had filled the nation with grief and anger, prompting a strong response under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“India believes in peace, but the country knows how to respond firmly to those who threaten its security,” she said while saluting the role of soldiers deployed on the borders under difficult conditions. The Chief Minister said the armed forces continue to protect the country day and night and deserve the nation’s highest respect for their courage and dedication.
The event witnessed patriotic performances and cultural programmes centred on nationalism and the armed forces. Singer Ashish Kulkarni performed patriotic songs during the evening, while slogans praising the country and the armed forces echoed across the venue.
Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra said the programme was organised to honour the bravery of Indian soldiers and remember their sacrifices. He said the armed forces, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had demonstrated India’s strength against terrorism and infiltration.
“India does not initiate conflict, but if the nation is challenged, a strong response will follow,” Mishra said during his address.
He added that the event was not only a tribute to soldiers but also an occasion to inspire citizens towards the vision of a developed India.
According to officials, the programme aimed to commemorate the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor and reinforce public support for the armed forces. The venue at Connaught Place was decorated with patriotic themes and witnessed participation from people across different age groups.
The Chief Minister said Operation Sindoor was more than a military mission and had become a symbol of national unity and determination. She said the operation demonstrated the country’s resolve against terrorism and highlighted the preparedness of India’s armed forces.
Several attendees, including former servicemen and youth volunteers, joined the event carrying national flags and participating in patriotic activities organised during the programme. Officials said the event formed part of a broader initiative by the Delhi government to recognise the contribution of the armed forces and strengthen patriotic awareness among citizens.
