Delhi LG inaugurates DDA Sports Cup at Yamuna Sports Complex

Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, inaugurated the opening ceremony of the DDA Sports Cup (Hockey) at the Hockey AstroTurf of Yamuna Sports Complex on Thursday. The tournament is being organised in line with the vision of the Prime Minister’s Fit India Movement, launched in 2019 to encourage people, particularly the youth, to make sports and fitness an integral part of their lives. The growing participation of young people in different sporting disciplines reflects this positive change.
The event was attended by MLA Vishwas Nagar, Om Prakash Sharma, and Vice Chairman, DDA, N Saravana Kumar, along with senior DDA officials, coaches, participating teams and young hockey players.
The DDA Sports Cup brings together 11 teams from Delhi-NCR, with around 220 players, coaches and support staff participating in the tournament. The event provides young hockey players an opportunity to compete, gain match experience and showcase their talent, while promoting discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship.
The tournament is being held from 8th to 18th October, with 11th and 12th October as rest days, covering a total of nine playing days. It follows a league-cum-knockout format and will feature 20 matches, comprising 12 league matches, four quarter-finals, two semi-finals, a third-place match and the final. The final will be played on 18th October.
Hockey has a special place in India’s sporting history and has inspired generations of young Indians to take up the sport. The DDA Sports Cup seeks to provide young players with competitive exposure and an opportunity to develop their skills through regular match experience.
DDA has played an important role in taking sports infrastructure closer to the people of Delhi. It currently manages 19 Sports Complexes, 04 Mini Sports Complexes and 03 Golf Courses across the city. These facilities provide opportunities for people, particularly young people, to participate in sports, pursue fitness and develop their skills.
DDA’s sports facilities are also being developed as integrated spaces for sports, fitness, recreation and wellness. The recently inaugurated Sports Complex at Sector-33, Rohini, is another step in this direction and offers a range of outdoor and indoor sports facilities.
Under the guidance of Lieutenant Governor, DDA remains committed to further strengthening sports infrastructure across Delhi and creating more opportunities for budding and developing sporting talent. Through modern facilities and regular competitions, DDA seeks to encourage more young people to play, train and compete and progress towards higher levels of sporting achievement.
