Delhi High Court Reserves Order On Athar Khan Bail Plea In 2020 Riots UAPA Case

The Delhi High Court has reserved its order on the bail plea of Athar Khan, an accused in the 2020 northeast Delhi riots “larger conspiracy” case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The matter came up before the High Court after Khan challenged a trial court order that had earlier denied him bail in the case. The case is part of the broader investigation into alleged conspiracy linked to the February 2020 communal violence in Delhi.
According to legal proceedings, the court heard detailed submissions from both the defence and the prosecution before deciding to reserve its judgment. The next course of action will depend on the court’s final order, which is expected to be pronounced at a later date.
The accused in the case face charges under multiple sections of the IPC and UAPA, with the prosecution alleging their involvement in planning and facilitating the riots.
The 2020 Delhi riots case has seen multiple bail hearings over the past several years, with courts frequently balancing arguments around prolonged custody, seriousness of charges, and ongoing investigation timelines.
Authorities maintain that the case involves a wider conspiracy behind the violence that broke out in northeast Delhi in February 2020, while the defence has consistently argued for bail on grounds of long incarceration without trial.
