Delhi HC orders daily health checks for Sonam Wangchuk during hunger strike

The Delhi High Court has directed the Centre and the Delhi government to ensure daily medical examinations of education reformer and activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. Stressing that "the life of every citizen is precious," the court said his health must be monitored regularly and medical care should be provided whenever necessary.
The order came while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) expressing concern over Wangchuk's deteriorating health due to his prolonged fast.
During the hearing, the Centre informed the court that it had no objection to conducting regular health check-ups. The bench directed government doctors to examine Wangchuk daily and keep a close watch on his condition throughout the protest.

Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike for nearly three weeks, demanding reforms related to alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. While the court did not comment on the merits of his protest, it emphasised that protecting human life remains the government's primary responsibility. The matter will continue to be monitored as authorities submit updates on his health and the proceedings move forward.
