Delhi govt approves Rs 805 crore medical college project in Dwarka, says CM Rekha Gupta

The Delhi government has approved the construction of a new medical college and hostel complex in Dwarka at an estimated cost of Rs 805.99 crore, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Wednesday.
The project will come up at the Indira Gandhi Hospital campus in Dwarka and is expected to significantly strengthen healthcare and medical education infrastructure in the national capital.
According to officials, the proposal received clearance during a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee chaired by the chief minister. The medical college will be developed in phases and is targeted for completion by 2028.
The planned campus will include a multi-storey academic block, separate hostels for male and female students, faculty housing and modern teaching facilities built in line with National Medical Commission norms. Authorities said the institution will eventually offer 250 MBBS seats annually, with teaching activities beginning initially with 150 students.
Officials said the first phase will focus on constructing the academic block, student hostels and residential quarters for faculty members over an area of more than 1.17 lakh square metres. The campus will also include parking facilities, lecture theatres, laboratories and a central library.
The project will incorporate green building features such as solar power systems, rainwater harvesting, water recycling and energy-efficient infrastructure. Authorities also said the campus would be fully accessible for persons with disabilities through ramps, lifts and wheelchair-friendly pathways.
CM Rekha Gupta said the initiative is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare and increasing the number of trained doctors in Delhi.
