Delhi Government issues show-cause Notice to Janakpuri Private School over safety lapses, financial irregularities

The Delhi government has issued a show-cause notice to a private school in Janakpuri, citing serious lapses in student safety, statutory compliance and alleged financial irregularities. The Directorate of Education (DoE) warned that strict action, including withdrawal of recognition and takeover of the school's management, could follow if the institution fails to provide a satisfactory explanation. 

According to the Education Department, a preliminary inquiry found multiple deficiencies in the school's functioning, including inadequate surveillance systems, the absence of CCTV cameras at critical locations, and shortcomings in implementing child protection measures. Authorities also alleged that nursery and pre-primary classes were being operated from an unapproved premises located around one kilometre from the recognised campus without prior permission. 

The notice also flags alleged financial irregularities and seeks detailed records related to the school's finances, staff deployment, safety protocols, building and fire safety certificates, and permissions for operating from the additional premises. The government said these issues raise concerns over compliance with statutory norms and the conditions under which the school was granted recognition. 

The action follows an ongoing investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a three-year-old student on the school premises earlier this year. The Directorate of Education has maintained that ensuring student safety and institutional accountability remains its top priority. 

The school has been directed to submit its response within the stipulated time. The Delhi government said failure to provide a satisfactory explanation could result in disciplinary action under the Delhi School Education Act and Rules, including withdrawal of recognition and takeover of the school's management.
