Delhi Court takes cognisance of chargesheet in IRS officer’s daughter murder case

A Delhi court on Saturday took cognisance of the chargesheet filed against Rahul Meena, the former domestic help accused of the rape, murder and robbery of the 22-year-old daughter of a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer.
Judicial Magistrate Deepika Thakran also directed the Delhi Police to preserve all video evidence related to the investigation and provide the details to the defence. The matter has been listed for scrutiny of documents on August 1.
The 973-page chargesheet was filed after the completion of the investigation by the Amar Colony police station. According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly entered the victim's residence using his prior knowledge of a spare key. Police allege he sexually assaulted and killed the victim before fleeing with cash and other valuables.
Investigators said the case is supported by forensic evidence, including DNA profiling, fingerprints and palm prints, along with CCTV footage from more than 100 cameras, crime scene reconstruction and other scientific examinations. Police maintain that the evidence establishes a complete chain linking the accused to the crime.
