Delhi Assembly, Secretariat, Army school get hoax bomb threats

The Delhi Assembly, Secretariat and an Army Public School in the national Capital received bomb threats on Friday, prompting authorities to intensify security measures and launch search operations across the premises. The threats came even as the city remained on high alert following four days of the CJP protest and associated clashes in the New Delhi district, with no suspicious object found and the threats subsequently declared hoaxes, officials said.

Teams from Delhi Police, bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and the Delhi Fire Service were rushed to the affected locations after the threats were reported. As a precautionary measure, the premises were evacuated, and thorough search operations were carried out. After nothing suspicious was found during the searches, authorities declared the threats hoaxes. Further investigation is underway to identify the source of the calls and emails.

The threats arrived on a day when central Delhi was already under exceptional security deployment, with 18 Metro stations shut for the third consecutive day, Parliament Street, Tolstoy Road, and Jai Singh Marg sealed, and over 5,000 police and paramilitary personnel deployed across the New Delhi district in response to the ongoing CJP agitation at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The timing of the bomb threats, coming during the most intense phase of the protest-related security mobilisation in central Delhi, adds a layer of concern for investigators who must determine whether the threats are connected to the protest environment or represent unrelated hoax activity of the kind that has become a recurring feature in Delhi over recent years.

Delhi has seen a series of bomb threat hoaxes targeting schools, Government buildings, and public institutions over the past several years. In February 2026, multiple institutions including the Delhi Secretariat, Delhi Assembly, the Delhi Army Public School in Dhaula Kuan, and Red Fort received bomb threat emails purportedly from an outfit calling itself the Khalistan National Army, with specific blast times mentioned for each location.

All were declared hoaxes after thorough searches. In July 2025, over 45 schools across Delhi received bomb threats in a single week. The pattern of hoax threats has prompted the Delhi High Court to previously direct authorities to devise an action plan to deal with recurring false alarms.

The cyber cell has been engaged to trace the origin of Friday’s threat communications and identify the sender. Police said appropriate legal action will follow once the source is established.

The bomb threats represent an additional security challenge at a moment when Delhi Police resources are already stretched across multiple fronts in the New Delhi district. With the CJP protest entering its 49th day, security agencies managing the Jantar Mantar situation simultaneously had to respond to threats at the Assembly Secretariat and a school, stretching an already heavily deployed force across simultaneous emergencies.
