DDA hands over appointment letters to 1,647 newly recruited officers

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Thursday handed appointment letters to 1,647 newly recruited officers and staff in its largest recruitment drive so far, marking a major expansion of the agency responsible for planning and developing the national Capital.
The appointments were made during a “Niyukti Samaroh” attended by Delhi Lieutenant Governor and DDA Chairman Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu. Senior DDA officials, family members of recruits and other guests were also present at the programme.
The fresh recruitment will increase DDA’s workforce by nearly 55 per cent. The authority currently has around 3,000 employees.
The new recruits will now join different wings of the authority and are expected to support DDA’s expanding role in urban planning, housing, environmental restoration and infrastructure development across the Capital.
Officials said the new appointments are expected to strengthen DDA’s administrative and operational capacity at a time when the agency is handling large-scale housing, infrastructure, environmental and heritage projects across Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, Lieutenant Governor Sandhu said the newly appointed employees were becoming part of a larger vision for the transformation of the national capital. He said Delhi occupies a special position as the country’s capital and governance standards are expected to remain high.
“You are not just joining a public institution. You are becoming part of the long-term development framework of Delhi,” he said. Sandhu also stressed the importance of transparency and merit in public recruitment. He said the selection process reflected institutional integrity and would help strengthen governance in line with the vision of a developed India.
The recruitment drive covered 26 different posts across technical, engineering, administrative, planning, horticulture and support services departments. The largest number of appointments were made for multi-tasking staff positions, where 745 candidates were selected. The DDA also recruited 278 malis, 147 junior secretariat assistants, 104 junior engineers in the civil category, 79 patwaris and 75 sectional officers in horticulture.
Other appointments included junior engineers in electrical and mechanical streams, planning assistants, assistant directors, assistant executive engineers, legal assistants, programmers, surveyors and translators.
Officials said the expansion in manpower became necessary because of several large projects undertaken by DDA in recent years. These include development work in Narela, Dwarka and Rohini, large-scale housing projects, environmental restoration initiatives and heritage conservation programmes.
The authority has been actively involved in rejuvenation projects along the Yamuna floodplains through initiatives such as Baansera, Asita and Vasudev Ghat.
