CPI(M) slams Govt as ‘subordinate ally’ of US

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday adopted a stinging resolution at its ‘Jan Aakrosh Rally’ at Ramlila Maidan, accusing the BJP-led Union Government of becoming a “subordinate ally” of the United States and failing to protect citizens from the economic fallout of the ongoing West Asia conflict.
Releasing the resolution on behalf of the CPI(M) Central Committee, Muralidharan stated that the US-Israel attacks on Iran and Palestine have triggered a severe domestic crisis. The party flagged an acute scarcity of gas cylinders reaching rural pockets and slammed the Government for recent hikes in petrol and LPG prices, which have driven up the cost of essential commodities like rice and vegetables.
The resolution condemned the “genocidal” nature of the aggression in Gaza and Iran, specifically highlighting a school strike that claimed the lives of over 160 girl students and teachers. It further noted with alarm the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, the bom-bing of an Iranian vessel participating in Indian Navy events, and the intensified blockade against Cuba.
“Instead of condemning these inhuman attacks, the BJP Government has stood with the US and Israel,” the resolution noted, adding that India’s strategic autonomy has been compromised.
The CPI(M) demanded that the Union Government immediately issue a formal condemnation of the military actions and take proactive steps to ensure the safety of Indians residing in the Gulf and West Asia. The party also called for an immediate end to the war and urged the Centre to curb spiralling inflation and ensure the unhindered supply of cooking gas to the poor.
