Couple injured after roof slab collapses in Delhi's New Usmanpur

A couple was seriously injured after the roof slab of a one-storey house collapsed on them in northeast Delhi's New Usmanpur area on Sunday night, police said.
The incident occurred around 10 pm at JP Nagar under the jurisdiction of New Usmanpur police station, they said.
A child who was also inside the rented house at the time escaped unhurt, police said.
The couple was trapped under the debris after the roof slab suddenly collapsed. Police, fire department personnel and rescue teams rushed to the spot following information about the incident and launched a rescue operation.
The injured couple was pulled out from the rubble and taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.
The couple had been living in the house as tenants. The man, identified as Akash, is a native of Etawah in Uttar Pradesh and works as a confectioner in Delhi, according to preliminary information.
Police said the exact cause of the roof collapse is yet to be ascertained.
An investigation into the incident is underway, they added.
