Coal India arm NCL supplies 137 MT dry fuel in FY26

Coal India arm NCL on Friday said that it supplied a record 137.08 Million Tonnes (MT) of coal to its customers in power and other sectors during 2025-26, significantly reinforcing India’s energy security amid surging domestic demand and shifting global dynamics.Of the total dispatch, approximately 86 per cent, equivalent to 117.85 MT, was supplied to coal-based power plants.

“Amid evolving global energy dynamics and rising power demand in the country, NCL’s consistent performance has played a significant role in supporting the country’s energy security. Reinforcing its contribution to national energy security, NCL dispatched 137.08 million tonnes of coal to the power sector and other consumers during FY 2025-26,” Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL) said in a statement.

 In line with its commitment to sustainable operations, 85.51 per cent of the total coal dispatch was carried out through environment-friendly modes.

Northern Coalfields Ltd produced 140.5 million tonnes of coal in 2025-26, registering a growth of 1.08 per cent from the year-ago period.

“The company has successfully met its annual production target during the year, with all its projects achieving their respective coal production goals, reflecting strong operational coordination across its 10 highly mechanised mega opencast mines,” it said. Among individual projects, Jayant recorded the highest production at 30 MT, followed by Dudhichua and Nigahi projects at 25 MT each. Other projects also contributed significantly to the overall performance while achieving their individual targets.

Overburden removal, which is a key parameter in the opencast mine operation, stood at 461.7 million cubic metres during the year.The consistent performance of NCL is due to its sustained focus on operational efficiency and coordinated efforts across projects, it said.

Headquartered in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, NCL operates in the Moher Sub-Basin of the Singrauli Coalfield, covering parts of both Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Singrauli is popularly known as the ‘energy capital of India,’ and NCL’s coal alone contributes to 10 per cent of the country’s electricity generation. The company supplies coal to many of the country’s thermal power plants, including NTPC Vindhyachal.
