CM Rekha launches EV subsidy portal

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday launched the Delhi EV Subsidy Portal at evsubsidy.delhi.gov.in. The portal through which eligible citizens can apply online from home within 30 days of purchasing an electric vehicle and receiving their registration certificate. The government committed to transferring the subsidy directly into bank accounts through direct benefit transfer within 60 days of application.
The Chief Minister also unveiled the official booklet of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2026 at a programme held at the Delhi Secretariat. Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, Transport Commissioner Niharika Rai, and senior officials were present on the occasion.
The portal is entirely paperless and digital. Applicants can upload documents including Aadhaar, registration certificate, and voter ID online. Institutions can upload GSTIN, PAN, and bank account details. Real-time application tracking is available at every stage so applicants can follow the status of their subsidy without visiting any office.
Approved incentives will be transferred through Aadhaar-authenticated Direct Benefit Transfer within the prescribed 60-day period after document verification. The portal also serves as a single information hub covering eligibility criteria, subsidies for each vehicle category, the list of approved EV models, required documents, and the full application process.
On the broader policy, the Chief Minister said the Delhi Government will invest more than Rs 7,000 crore over the next four years to implement the EV Policy 2026. The policy provides purchase incentives of up to Rs 30,000 for electric two-wheelers, up to Rs 50,000 for electric three-wheelers, and up to Rs 1 lakh for N-1 category electric trucks. Additional scrapping incentives are available for retiring old polluting vehicles, with amounts varying by vehicle category.
All eligible electric vehicles will receive a lifetime 100 per cent exemption from road tax and registration fees. This exemption extends to electric cars priced up to Rs 30 lakh ex-showroom, even though no purchase incentive is available for private electric cars under the policy.
On mandatory electrification timelines, from January 1, 2027, only new electric L-5 auto-rickshaws and N-1 category electric goods vehicles will be registered in Delhi. From April 1, 2028, registration of new petrol and diesel two-wheelers will not be permitted. Vehicles already registered before these dates will continue to operate until the end of their prescribed validity period.
